Emerald Hill Shophouses

It was probably at my very first visit to Clare Haxby’s studio when I fell in love with this “Emerald Hill Shophouses” print and I am delighted to introduce this print to you now on my website, as the Singapore shophouses continue to be ever so popular.

The Peranakan Shophouses of Emerald Hill are one of Singapore’s best addresses. Formerly Plantation land, it was wealthy Chinese Peranakan Spice Merchants or Straits Chinese who inhabited these ornate buildings just off Orchard Road. The decorative style was also known as Chinese Baroque.

Clare Haxby describes her “Emerald Hill Shophouses” as follows:

The Peranakan Shophouses of Emerald Hill are one of Singapore’s best addresses, formerly Plantation land, it was wealthy Chinese Peranakan Spice Merchants or Straits Chinese who inhabited these ornate buildings just off Orchard Road. The decorative style was also known as Chinese Baroque. Emerald Hill is flanked with Shophouses on either side and the fronts feature decorative plaster work, painted shutters and decorative Peranakan tiles. The heavy scented Frangipani & Tropical Sealing Wax Palms in the gardens complete this charming look of Singapore’s heritage past.

The Clare Haxby Connection:

I met British artist Clare Haxby when she lived in Singapore. It was one of her “open house” days when she would open her art studio, which was located in a beautiful colonial Black & White house, to visitors. I felt an immediate connection with her art. I loved the way she portrays some of Singapore’s unique landmarks in vibrant colours. Her Buddha collection and the Botanical series equally spoke to me.

The generous use of bright colours make Clare Haxby’s paintings and fine art prints ideal objects to enhance the Feng Shui of your home when you hang them in the “right” place.

It was probably at my very first visit to Clare’s studio when I fell in love with this “Emerald Hill Shophouses” print. We had recently moved into our current home and I was looking for something in green/blue colours for our staircase as we didn’t have much art then. So when I told my husband about it that evening, he placed the order straight away!

I am delighted to introduce this print to you now on my website, as the Singapore shophouses continue to be ever so popular.

The Feng Shui Connection:

This gorgeous “Emerald Hill Shophouses” print is ideal for the EAST and SE areas of your home. Both these sectors belong to the wood element and benefit from plants, wooden objects/furniture, and/or the colour green. Knowing the elements of the various compass sectors and corresponding rooms in your home is the secret of creating harmony and good energy in your surroundings.

When hung in the EAST – this print will boost the Health Chi of your home; something that is always important! No matter how much success or money we have, without good health we would not be able to enjoy either.

When hung in the SE – this print will strengthen your Wealth & Prosperity Luck, something we all aspire to, isn’t it?

The calming energy of this print also makes it suitable for a bedroom.
