Description
This is an extract from Clare Haxby’s own description:
I have loved creating this new print, the first in my new series of “Peranakans and Peonies”! It features the Peranakan ladies in their beautiful embroidered clothes in front of a row of “Joo Chiat” district painted shophouses shading from the tropical sun under palm trees and parasols. On the border of the painting is a decorative and striking Peranakan tile design. On the original painting I used a linocut carved printing block to create the tile design and I used mono-printing technique for the hand-drawn figures.
Signed limited edition art print.
Signed by the artist and printed on German Hahnemuhle paper.
Size: A1 size, W 84.1cm x H 59.4cm
The Clare Haxby Connection:
I met British artist Clare Haxby when she lived in Singapore. It was one of her “open house” days when she would open her art studio, which was located in a beautiful colonial Black & White house, to visitors. I felt an immediate connection with her art. I loved the way she portrays some of Singapore’s unique landmarks in vibrant colours. Her Buddha collection and the Botanical series equally spoke to me.
The generous use of bright colours make Clare Haxby’s paintings and fine art prints ideal objects to enhance the Feng Shui of your home when you hang them in the “right” place.
I have chosen a few of Clare’s pieces of art to be featured on my website and would like to explain how you can use them to enhance the auspicious energy in your home.
The Feng Shui Connection:
I wanted to feature some artwork that is suitable for the “Health” sector of your home, and this enchanting “Peranakans & Peonies at the Joo Chiat Shophouse” is one of them. It is one of Clare’s latest creations in her series of Singapore Landmarks. Although overall colourful, the botanical elements – palm trees, peony flower and leaves – are in the foreground of the picture. The additional green tile pattern on the left further strengthens the wood element in the print.
Looking after the Health Chi of your home is always important – even more so in the current times, when Health is on everybody’s mind. In fact, from the beginning of Feng Shui Focus, good health has been one of the two main reasons why clients contact me to analyze their Feng Shui.
To ensure good health for your family, you need to have wood element in the EAST of your home. Plants are therefore fabulous for your EAST sector (but not in a bedroom) and paintings or pictures of nature scenes are the next best option.
That means, the EAST of your home or the EAST of your living room would be the ideal place for this beautiful “Peranakan & Peonies at the Joo Chiat Shophouse” print. Of course you could also hang it in the EAST of your office.
