There are many traditions and rituals associated with Chinese New Year. One of them is to look at the auspicious door directions on the Day of Chinese New Year.
Feng Shui Masters recommend to only open those doors that are facing a good direction! All doors that are facing a bad direction should be kept closed on the first day of Chinese New Year, even if that means you have to stay indoors all day or, as my master Lillian Too did a few years ago, take your family away on a holiday over the Chinese New Year period.
This year, Chinese New Year falls on Wednesday, 29th January 2025 and the lucky and unlucky door directions are as follows:
Lucky Directions |
Unlucky Directions |
God of Wealth: NORTH | 5 Ghosts: SOUTH |
God of Mentors & Noblemen: NE | Death Door: NORTH |
God of Happiness: SE |
Usually, it would be most auspicious for you to invite the God of Wealth into your home from the NORTH on the first day of Chinese New Year, but because the NORTH is also the direction of the Death Door this year, it would be better to invite the God of Mentors & Noblemen from the NE or the God of Happiness from the SE instead.
And remember NOT to open the unlucky doors during the 2nd half of the day on Wednesday, 29th January.
